"He Called Her Hat" that tough little lady.
He Called Her 'Hat', That Tough Little Lady, By Myron C. McDonald

Please CLICK on the picture for ordering information.

Her name was Harriette DePeele. She was born in Quebec Province in 1878. When she was eight years old her father, an itinerant saleman, left her to be raised in a Detroit convent, where, in general, her life was miserable.
She settled, with her first husband, on a farm in Michigan. The romance of the story begins after his death when she married a tall handsome, rather lackadaisical man, 20 years her junior. Her life became a riot, from quiots to quilting, from chicken dew to home brew. She could predict the sex of unborn babes, calves and colts, with unerring accuracy. She ruled the roost, long before anyone heard of women's lib and women's rights. Truly one of a kind, she left her imprint on all who knew her, most of all her grandson, Myron, named after her first husband, Myron Corey. Long after her departure from this mortal coil, he remembers her fondly in his only and perhaps most enduring work, a tribute to that tough little woman, his grandmother.
